In Game Mouse Lag Mac

Jan 15, 2020  I’m running the game on a 2016 MacBook Pro and after downloading 8.3, the game crashes completely or will lag for about 5-10 seconds with the rainbow mouse icon circling. At one point, the computer shut down automatically after lagging. I’m using the most basic graphics and this issue particularly occurs when I’m around a lot of people or in a chaotic boss fight. I was told to switch the. Nov 18, 2013  Games that don’t read raw mouse data may end up with laggy, freezing, or stuttering mouse movement. This problem seems to primarily affect users with high-DPI or high-polling rate mice — in other words, gaming mice. Microsoft has only released a partial fix, but there’s a way to fix this problem in any affected game. When connected the game cursor lags very far behind the screen/OS cursor, the tracking is so bad it's impossible to use the mouse within the game. This appears to be limited to online play, because the mouse works fine in Roblox Studio. It's also isolated to this particular computer, Roblox works fine on all the Windows PCs I have.

  • Before I can start to give good advice, I will need to know your system specifications.
If you click the Apple Logo in the menu bar, and select 'About this Mac'. I am interested in what kind of Mac you have, your processor, memory and graphics card. (If you have a Mac with two graphics cards you will need to dig a little to find the second one - Click Systemreport, and select 'Graphics/Display')
  • Hi there, thanks for your reply!
Processor 2.5 GHz intel Core i5
    Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB
    Thank you!
  • Okay, you are not the first to experience problems with the Intel HD 4000 graphics card.
    Let's try theese settings:
    Display Type - Full Screen
    Resolution - 1280x800
Retina Resolution: off (if it's available)
    Vertical Sync - No
    Sims – Medium
    Objects - Medium
    Lighting – Low or Medium
    Reflections - Low or Medium
    Visual Effects - Medium
Edge Smoothing - low, maybe medium
    3D Scene Resolution - Low
    View Distance - Low
    Uncompressed Sim Textures - No
    Post Processing Effects - No
    Laptop Mode - No
And to control your amount of frames per second, open the cheat console by holding down CTRL + SHIFT and then pressing C. Type: fps on
and hit return. The amount of frames per second should be shown in the lower left corner.
The funny thing with the sims 4 is, that even at a low setting most things look okay. And turning up the effects requires a lot of power.
But try this at first. I would like to know your FPS average. If it works I can give good advice to others, and if it doesn't work, I have an idea of how far I am off.
  • Thank you so much for reply! Ive changed all the settings and still having the same problem!
I appreciate you helping so much!
I have turned on the fps but the number keeps changing.
  • I know the FPS change all the game, but where is it most of the time, around 15 or 20 fps or...?
  • Mine's doing the same thing! PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP!!
Also if I 'tab out' of the game my mac is much slower than usual.
I just got Get To Work, and it didn't happen before that...
  • I am suffering from a similar problem as well, think the March patch messed something up.
However I did discover, that if I turned all the settings to low, applied them, and then turned them up again to my normal settings the performance was restored.
  • Since getting Get To Work my game has been slow too and sort of freezes for like 20 seconds, where the time in the game speeds up, my sim is frozen, her wants and needs start to decrease, I can't click on anything, then after the 20 seconds it goes back in time (right before it froze) and my sim can move again and I can click on things. It does it like every 2 minutes. Really annoying. I didn't have a problem until Get To Work. I have a MacBook Pro. Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5. Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB. Software: Lion. Yes I do realize I'm running the game on minimum specification, but it was running just fine before.
  • The March patch and GTW seemed to have caused quite a few problems. It doesn't bode well for future EPs.

  • The March patch and GTW seemed to have caused quite a few problems. It doesn't bode well for future EPs.

It did fix some issues such as the Reach Level of Career goals and more than one Sim being able to grab food from the fridge at the same time. Some others are not such as Sims autonomously drinking, Sims Napping instead of Sleeping, and some Sims tending to Troll autonomously.
I really like to know what problems version 1.5 (March update) of TS4 caused on the Mac version of The Sims 4.

I really like to know what problems version 1.5 (March update) of TS4 caused on the Mac version of The Sims 4.

    - Slower loading times, specifically from selecting the household to actually playing them. Also travelling.
    - Increased lag on lower spec. machines. Probably due to the integrated GPUs.
    - More frequent vmmap crashes (memory related).
    - Sims sometimes stand around motionless, like the game is trying to catch up. More frequent since the patch.

I found a Mac Simmer known as scarymary378 posting a thread about Time Buttons lagging who said that they have a MacBook Pro running on Medium settings. I'm thinking the lag that scarymary378 is experiencing could be linked to the issues mentioned in this thread. scarymary378 didn't state which MacBook Pro was used but I'm guessing it's probably the 13' MacBook Pro. I'm not sure when the user will reply since I haven't seen his/her reply today.

@WinMacSims3 , Hey there, you are correct on my Macbook pro being 13', Processor 2.8 GHz intel core i7, memory: 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
  • the same thing is happening to me as well! Except, my buildings have disappeared - literally! The house I created and even the hospital that my sims work at ): And I haven't used CC or anything else! What to do?!
  • Intel integrated chips are poop for running games.

  • @iAV3rag3@green_mau which Macs do you have?
I'm adding this to the bug thread because it's so widespread.

  • I wrote earlier about how my sim would freeze, the lagging thing. Well I ended up placing the sims 4 folder on my desktop, loading the game to create a new folder, then only saving the trays folder. I have now played for at least 6 hours in the past two days and have not had a single problem. My sims are not lagging anymore, everything loads faster, no more crashing when I try to travel somewhere, etc. So starting my game brand new helped, but I did have to get rid of all my saved stuff. Anyways my problem could have been due to the memory issue, so it will probably happen again the more I play, and save games.
  • I found a similar issue on EA Answers (thanks for @luthienrising for telling me about the similar problem) that also affects Windows users so it's not just the Mac users experiencing lag problems. However, I don't think any of the Mac users mentioned anything about socializing freezing the game which SHODAN001 (from EA Answers) experienced.

Could it have been your previous graphics settings? Have you changed them from the default ones since starting a clean game?

  • @bluebellflora no I didn't change my graphics. I've kept everything at low, like I had before. My mac is like 5 years old. I started having the lagging and crashing when I installed GTW ep. So I wasn't too optimistic that creating a new sims 4 folder would fix my problem. I think there might have been a bug or something in my save folder. I did try to do a cheat to make the Grimm reaper part of my household, and I feel like after that is when the crashing might have started, but the sims freezing lagging thing happened after installing GTW. So who knows. I have a feeling the more I play and the more households I save into the game will start to make my game crash and sims freeze/lag again. Also I'm not doing anymore cheats, just in case that brought a bug.

  • I was just speaking with a help advisor with EA and I've had this issue for a few months now, I know this is been over a year since anyone has posted in this particular thread, but the help advisor suggested moving the Sims 4 Documents folder to the desktop, launching the game so it creates a new Sims 4 doc folder and seeing if that helps. You'll lose your data, though.

Do you actually HAVE a (Mac) laptop…? There is no such thing as 'laptop mode'. If there was, don't you think we'd have all switched it on by now…?

Your device isn't recognized by your Mac

Follow these steps if your mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't recognized by your Mac.

Make sure that your wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad is turned on

The Magic Mouse and Magic Mouse 2 have a slide switch on the bottom of the device. Slide the switch to turn on the device. On the Magic Mouse, the green LED briefly lights up. On the Magic Mouse 2, green coloring is visible beneath the switch.

The Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, and Magic Trackpad 2 have a slide switch on the back edge of the device. Slide the switch to turn on the device (green coloring becomes visible). Earlier Apple Wireless Keyboard models have a power button on the right side of the device. Press the button and you see a green LED on the top of the device, near the button.

When you turn these devices on, they appear as Connected in the Bluetooth section of System Preferences and in the Bluetooth menu in your menu bar. If a device doesn't appear there, make sure it's charged or replace it batteries, and make sure it's been paired with your Mac.

Make sure that your device has been set up to work with your Mac

Learn how to pair your Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Magic Trackpad 2—and earlier models of Apple wireless devices—with your Mac.

Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on

Use your Mac notebook's built-in trackpad or a USB mouse to choose Apple () menu > System Preferences. Then select Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.

Refer to the table below for more information on determining the Bluetooth status. If the Bluetooth icon doesn't appear, or if the menu bar status continues to indicate that Bluetooth is off, restart your computer and then try to turn Bluetooth on again.

Bluetooth turned on and at least one wireless device is connected.
When this icon flashes, at least one wireless device has a low battery. Click the Bluetooth icon to identify the affected device, then recharge the device or replace its batteries.
Bluetooth is off. Click the Bluetooth icon using a USB mouse or built-in trackpad and select Turn Bluetooth On.
Bluetooth is offline or unavailable. Restart your Mac. If the Bluetooth status doesn’t change, disconnect all USB devices and restart your Mac again.

Make sure that your devices are charged

Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, and Magic Trackpad 2 have built-in rechargeable batteries. You can charge these devices by connecting them to a Mac or a USB power adapter using a Lightning to USB Cable. For the fastest battery charging performance, be sure your device is switched on when connected to the Lightning to USB Cable.

Gaming

To check the battery level of these devices, click the Bluetooth icon in your Mac's menu bar, then select your device by name. If the battery level of any device is low, recharge the device. If the device isn’t showing, make sure the device is turned using the steps outlined above.

Turn the device off and on

If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't recognized by your Mac after following the tips above, try turning the wireless device off, waiting a few seconds, and then turning it back on.

Your mouse or keyboard intermittently stops responding

Follow these steps if your mouse or keyboard sometimes stops responding temporarily.

Click or press a key

  • Click the mouse or trackpad or press a key on the keyboard to reconnect the device to the computer. It might take a moment for the device to respond.

Check for signal interference

  • Wireless networks that operate on 2.4GHz may cause interference. Move cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other 2.4GHz electrical devices away from your Mac if you suspect interference.
  • Keep wireless devices within 10 meters (approximately 30 feet) of your Mac.
  • Avoid putting metal objects between your wireless device and your Mac.

Your mouse doesn't scroll up or down or side to side

If you can't use your mouse to scroll through a web page or document, see Mac Basics: Multi-Touch gestures to make sure your Gestures are configured correctly. You can also try adjusting your scrolling speed preferences.

Your mouse or trackpad doesn't track as expected

Apple Wireless Mouse, Magic Mouse, and Magic Mouse 2 can be used on most smooth surfaces. If tracking issues occur, try these options:

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then select Mouse. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse.
  • Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.
  • Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present.
  • If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices can affect tracking.

Your keyboard has one or more keys that don't respond

Use the Keyboard Viewer to test whether the keyboard keys are responding correctly when they are pressed.

Gaming Mouse

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then select Language & Region.
  2. Click the Keyboard Preferences button.
  3. Click on the Input Sources tab.
  4. Make sure that the keyboard language that you use is listed on the left side. If it's not, click and choose from the languages that appear.
  5. Select the checkbox next to Show Input menu in menu bar.
  6. Click on the Keyboard tab, then select the checkbox next to Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar.
  7. Choose Show Keyboard Viewer from the Input menu in the menu bar. The Keyboard Viewer showing the keyboard layout appears on your display.
  8. Type the key on the keyboard that doesn’t respond and see if the corresponding key highlights on the Keyboard Viewer. If it does, that key is functioning correctly.
